Welcoming cyclists, whether professionals or enthusiasts, is a great pleasure for us and a source of satisfaction and pride.

We are deeply committed to all sporting initiatives in the Andora area and the Val Merula, the beautiful valley that stretches out behind it, and we have been supporting and promoting them for many years. But one sector particularly close to our hearts is the world of “Bike Andora,” in whatever form it takes: competitive or recreational cycling, in teams, groups, or as individuals.

Athletes who choose Hotel Galleano should feel at home, have access to services and staff, and be able to count on attractions and activities for their companions (for example: during the swimming season, companions can enjoy our beach).

We have had the good fortune and honor of hosting major teams as well, who have appreciated our services and our willingness to accommodate every need. The athletes have fallen in love with the mild climate that accompanies us in spring and fall, the trails overlooking the sea that offer breathtaking views, the paths through the woods, and all the roads along the coast.

Hiking is a source of well-being, joy, and surprise. It is also an excellent way to discover and explore an area rich in natural beauty and historical sites, such as the Val Merula.
The valley opens up behind Andora; it begins at sea level and rises to an altitude of 989 meters at Pizzo d’Evigno (Monte Torre). Ancient villages, olive groves, and woods line the Merula stream, surrounded and crisscrossed by 180 km of trails and mule tracks, suitable for hikers and cyclists.

Amid breathtaking panoramas and surprising vistas, the flora and fauna thrive in a mild and sunny climate, sheltered by the two ridges that flank the valley floor.

The presence of extensive Mediterranean scrub near the coast and on the eastern ridge (broom, mastic, arbutus, myrtle, and maritime pine) bursts into a multicolored bloom at certain times of the year, alongside wild orchids and aromatic plants. On the western ridge, however, there is an extensive forest consisting of red oaks, Scots pines, maritime pines, ash trees, and some holm oaks, bearing witness to the existence of a primeval forest.

But while the vegetation is rich and varied, the wildlife manages to surprise those who have the patience to observe.
While walking, you may encounter wild boars, roe deer, foxes, badgers, and hedgehogs; looking up, you can see buzzards, ravens, green woodpeckers, hoopoes, various species of hawks, and small and large migratory birds (grey herons, little egrets) that stop to rest at certain times of the year, as well as a variety of resident birds.

The world of reptiles and amphibians is rich in lizards, geckos, green lizards, salamanders, and newts, as well as toads and frogs; in some areas, the most patient, quiet, and above all lucky visitors may spot the ocellated lizard, which is the largest in Europe (up to 60 cm) and finds its only suitable habitat in Italy in this part of Liguria.

Finally, the world of arachnids and insects features hundreds of species of butterflies, beetles, stick insects, and praying mantises, which inhabit every corner of the valley and sometimes colonize unimaginable ecological niches.

In addition to all this, there is the architecture and historical beauty, which are sometimes as obvious as the castle, the Romanesque bridge, and the bastion by the sea, while very often they must be discovered by wandering through the hamlets, observing the details, and slipping into the “carruggi” to understand how this extraordinary territory—though rugged and harsh—has influenced the culture and customs of the valley’s inhabitants.
